It might not hang around at the base but the view from our appartment Praz sur Arly is starting to look very festive
2023 Snow is Back on Track! 🎉❄❄❄
The year didn’t start well at all, as anyone who will have a watched the news around Christmas 2022 will know. The slopes were bare! Not quite that bad. We were there for Christmas and New Year and managed to ski – but it took a short drive to get to the snow. So, no ski in ski out, unfortunately. And no White Christmas in Praz town 😥
But roll it forward a couple of weeks, and a large dump and massive drop in temperatures, brought skiing back. Our friend Martin and crew held their nerve for a mid Jan trip and were rewarded with amazing conditions (see above) with most slopes open, including the local ski home.
With more snow coming in the first week in Feb and temperatures expected to stay low, even with lots of Sun, it looks very promising for the rest of Season.
New poster for the Praz swim lake
Just as our thoughts are turning to the snow, Praz have released a poster they have commissioned to celebrate the new swimming lake which opens in the summer
Praz to get it’s own lake!
Praz-sur-Arly is to join the French-mountain-village-with-a-lake club, with plans to complete the build by late 2022 and open for swimming in Summer 2023.
From the photo above it appears to be located on the other side of the river to the Les Belles games area, with a footbridge to connect it.
Work started clearing the land in Nov 2021 (photos here).
All the other amazing lakes in the area can be found here.
Hello Les Ronins!
We shall miss Les Trappeurs, a stalwart of the Praz restaurant scene, always standing alongside Le Bergerie and Les Sapins in the heart of the village with a pretty decent french onion soup. But in it’s place has risen Le Ronins!
We noticed the newcomer it on our brief pandemic visit in the Summer of 2020 but didn’t get a chance to try it . Our friends in Les Sapin told us it has been opened by a chef from a top Megéve restaurant looking to strike out on his own with his wife. So happy they have chosen our little Praz. And going by the reviews on their Facebook page and TripAdvisor, the food sounds amazing!
