Mountain Restaurant Le Patafan

While Le Patafan opened a few years ago, it wasn’t until Feb 2023 we made it inside. Drinks only but we definately want to come back to eat. The menu wasn’t large and certainly wasn’t traditional but there was something for everyone.

The reason we’d not been in yet is it’s a little out of the way. But this is to its benefit – it wasn’t crowded. You can find it as you ski down the popular Borlat blue piste from the top of the Plau de Four lift into what we call “The Bowl,” the collection of pistes in the Esapce Diamant served by the Grattary and Douce pair of lifts that – as part of Les Saisses zone need the full lift pass. You need to pick up some speed just as your turn right and away from the Bellasta area and into The Bowl, as the entrance along the edge of the frozen lake flattens out. But it’s worth the effort, with a great menu and an amazing view.

Inside feels more modern and café than most mountain restaurants. The menu is equally so. When we were there, it included a burger, a mediteranian tapas plate (with houmous) and a soup with lots of extras. But it was too early so we settled for a great coffee before heading on our way, with a back route down to Bellasta (you can also ski back into The Bowl). Welcome was friendly. We will definately be back to eat.

Chez Sachi – Sushi in Praz-sur-Arly

Fast on the heals of an Indian takeaway (well Sri Lankan to be accurate) is Praz-sur-Arly’s very own authentic, Japanese-owned Sushi takeaway.

You can find it on the Campsite on Route des Thouvassieres- just 10 mins walk away. Heading into the village you take the right just before crossing the river and follow the road around, heading to the new lake.

We’ve not tried it yet but looks amazing. And it turns out the chef is the source of the great looking sushi that has appeared in the Intermarchet supermarket in the last couple of years.

Indian Takeaway Opens on our Doorstep

Surprised and excited to hear from a recent visitor to Praz-sur-Arly that a restaurant offering Indian food to take away has opened just 5 mins away – Sri Lankan food to be precise.

Called Lanka Food, it offers a small menu (see below) – plus specials that change every day apparently – of Sri Lankan food and Indian curry staples, for food to go or delivery.

Lanka Food is located on the Route de Varins – on the path from our apartment into town – right next door to the Derby Sport equipment hire shop and opposite the Doctors. Apart from K-Bane it’s now the closest restaurant!

It’s getting a full 5 starts from it’s first 30+ reviews on Facebook.

We are blessed with so many amazing restaurants in the area but from time to time we crave something spicy and aromatic and now we have an option other than cooking it ourselves.

Restaurant Le Toi du Monde

Megève does not have a monopoly on Michelin -recommended restaurants! Just 5 mins drive from the apartment, heading out of Praz-sur-Arly in the direction of Flumet/Albertville and just set back on the right – is the Toi du Monde. It’s a barn converted into an acclaimed restaurant.

Somehow we’ve not yet been since it opened a couple of years ago. But this summer our sister/in-law and family visited Praz for the first time and came back raving about it – the best of all the great places they ate at.  And everyone else would seem to agree, based on its near perfect review scores and it’s Michelin stars!

They also have a few rooms to rent.

Hello Les Ronins!

We shall miss Les Trappeurs, a stalwart of the Praz restaurant scene, always standing alongside Le Bergerie and Les Sapins in the heart of the village with a pretty decent french onion soup. But in it’s place has risen Le Ronins!

We noticed the newcomer it on our brief pandemic visit in the Summer of 2020 but didn’t get a chance to try it . Our friends in Les Sapin told us it has been opened by a chef from a top Megéve restaurant looking to strike out on his own with his wife. So happy they have chosen our little Praz. And going by the reviews on their Facebook page and TripAdvisor, the food sounds amazing!

The Moufle is now the Local Bar

Praz sur Arly’s funkiest drinking establishment reopened this season under new management and with a new name: the Local Bar.

The decor has been updated – but no more than we’ve been used too between seasons – and is still very hip. And there is still an amazing array of craft and local beers on offer. So no change there. We have not tried the bar snacks (if there are any) or experienced the entertainment but there’s no reason to think it is not as good as before. The welcome and service is certainly very friendly.
